Depending on operated (or to be designed) ship types advice is given on how to comply to existing and upcoming environmental requirements covered by IMO/MARPOL as well as national, EU and special sensitive area (polar regions, Alaska, ...) regulations
Special focus topics include “fuel change-over” and cleaning exhaust gases by “scrubbing”
CO2 studies
For ship owners/operators: development of calculation approach for CO2 footprint of cargo/containers/passengers transported
For owners/operators and yards: advice on (upcoming) CO2 regulations, reduction options, alternative fuels and propulsion power
vStudies on emission to air from ships for authorities (using GL's database system for engine emission measurements on the basis of “EIAPP” (Engine International Air Pollution Prevention) certificates)
Recycling
Owners' recycling preparations (end of ships' life, preparation for “last voyage”)
IHM preparation for shipyards (new building, conversion and repair) and suppliers (MD preparation)
